Writing: Claude Is a Different Tier

We gave all three the same task: write a 600-word opinion piece on remote work productivity for a tech-savvy audience. The voice requirements were detailed: first-person, specific data cited, no corporate jargon, conclusion with a counterargument acknowledged.

Claude's output was the only one that read like something a thoughtful human would write. GPT-4o produced a competent but slightly wooden piece. Gemini's was the most generic — it had the same structure as a high-school five-paragraph essay. When we asked all three to revise based on feedback, Claude incorporated the feedback most accurately.

Coding: Close at the Top, Clear Separation Below

On standard LeetCode-style problems (medium difficulty), all three performed similarly. The gap appeared on real-world tasks: “Refactor this Express.js middleware to handle async errors correctly without breaking the existing type signatures.”

• Claude: Correctly identified the async error pattern, preserved TypeScript types, and added a note about the edge case where next() is called twice. First-try success.
